Yield: 12 biscuits 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour 3 tsp. baking powder 1 tsp. salt 1/2 cup ground oats 1/3 cup butter or shortening 1/2 cup milk 1/4 cup water Preheat oven to 450 degrees. Sift flour with baking powder and salt into a medium bowl. Stir in oats. Cut shortening into flour mixture with two knives until mixture resembles coarse cornmeal. Make a well in the center. Stir together milk and water. Pour 2/3 cup water-milk mixture into the well. Stir quickly around the bowl with a fork. If mixture seems too dry, add a more liquid to form a dough that is moist but not wet. Dough should leave the sides of the bowl. Turn dough onto a lightly floured surface. Roll to a 3/4” thickness. Cut biscuits with the rim of a water tumbler, patting together leftover dough to make as many biscuits as possible. Place on an ungreased baking sheet so biscuits do not touch. Bake 12-15 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the middle comes out clean.
