Ok today is a deep one. Check out the new article I just posted, What to "Remember" As We Near 2012, in our Documents. What do you think? It's important, a big deal, to many. Others not so much. Anyway, should be interesting.

What to "Remember" As We Near 2012

The onset of the year 2012 draws us closer and closer to the ‘end’ of the Mayan calendar. According to some, it is to be the “end of the world”. In fact, many scholars who study the stars, and the Mayan culture, have stated (including supposed “prophets”) that there will be a great change. This however does not mean “the end of the world.” I find myself remembering a comment I found online that in 2013 the movie 2012 will be very funny, and indeed, I believe it will. I may not be one who majors in astrology, but I am also not stupid. Is the weather changing? Yes, it is. Are the months and seasons less predictable and timely than they used to be? Yes they are… however that does not mean it will be the end of the world.
Many people will tell you that those who say the world will end in 2012 are wrong. I myself am one of them. I recently read articles on how some beings were ‘sent’ here to help see others through the 2012 events. I must say it did somewhat intrigue my curiosity but I do not believe that it is just up to a "select few." However I will say this from that article I agree with. If we look at what all has been going on in the world, as of this year, there indeed has been change (s) . To list a few examples: the USA has an African American President, the weather and seasons are changing, “we” are all becoming more aware of what is going on through nature, and a lot more of us are working on more ways to be environmentally friendly than we used to be. (which is a "better late than never” thing, as we are all responsible for this world that we live upon/in.) Happily, the meteor that was “supposed to hit us” missed us -- I will not go into the supposed rapture theory that was not correct either -- and even this close to the month of winter, I have seen roses still alive and well on the stems of bushes. If ever the elements all showed themselves, it has been this year.
We must face reality. THINGS ARE CHANGING. CHANGE is what creates NEW LIFE. We have winds that blow in the weather bringing forth the weather. We see more rain during seasons when normally we wouldn’t have it (due to the Moon and the tides from the sea that in turn creates the weather we have) . Rain nourishes and is a tool to help mold and shape the earth. The Earth itself seems to be more active. We all have seen this, and we all -- both pagan and not pagan -- have seen testament to that. Then there are the areas like Reno and others that are experiencing forest fires. We seem to forget that Fire is an element we should respect, but at the same time, be cautious with. Yes, Fire can destroy, but it in turn creates life. Like a phoenix that rises from the ashes to be reborn, Fire helps plants to give more seeds to help new life flourish, as well as helps give important nutrients back to the soil.
The change however is not just to do with the earth, the elements, or animals, but also within ourselves. Think about it for a second. Think of how much we are influenced by the changes. Our way of thinking is probably the biggest change of all, even more so than our bodies adjusting to any potential temperature changes. What do I mean by this? That’s simple. “WE” as a whole race, as Humans, have become much more aware. We are more aware of our actions bringing consequences; we are more aware of what’s around us. We are even learning to not only tolerate one another better, but also to understand each other a bit more. My proof needs no book, but all you need to do is look around you to see the answers for yourself.
I am a Shaman. I am also eclectic Wiccan, and have recently turned 26 years old. I have one more year of experiences now than I previously did. Most would say one year does not make a huge difference, especially when it comes to the Craft or in knowledge of religion, but I beg to differ. The times are different; but we need not worry about the end of the world. What we need to worry and focus on is not the change that will happen to the Earth, this planet… What we need to pay attention to are the “changes” within those around us, and ourselves. For what we choose to do will affect the outcome in everything.
We as a species, like all the others out there, have our roles to play. Now, more than ever, is not the time to simply sit back and cower in fear of the changes that are coming and WILL come in 2012. Instead, let us prepare. Let us be knowledgeable as pagans and open to new ideas, new costumes, new beliefs, and new ways to live -- not just in peace with each other, but with the earth, and the elements. Let us embrace what is to come with an open heart, and an open mind.
In the words of my Shaman Teacher, A’sheen: “We must Live, let live, embrace, learn, and pass on… For one day, those that come after us will need what we learn, so then they can adapt, and live on as those come before them.”
Let us remember these words and press on. The time is now. Let us embrace, and prepare. For our children, and their children, will be what is left of us. What we teach the people around us and our children honors our memory and gives purpose to our lives and to our future.
